This week, Outdoor Industry Association will release its semi-annual Topline Retail Sales Report. The report focuses on point of sale data for five outdoor product categories (Equipment, Equipment Accessories, Apparel, Footwear, and Paddle) over a six-month period through the outdoor specialty retail, outdoor chain, and outdoor Internet/catalog channels.
At first glance, the Topline Retail Sales Report is a behemoth 300-plus page report filled with numbers, statistics and graphs laying out in detail POS sales data for the spring/summer season. Sitting heavily on the table, the report is daunting to say the least. It seems as if an advanced degree is required before anyone should even think of delving into the number filled pages. But looks can be deceiving.
The report most certainly contains a wealth of information beyond what is or isn’t selling, dollars sold, units sold, etcâ€¦ Taken in context, the OIA Topline Retail Sales Report can provide insight into the trends that are driving growth in our industry. Taken in combination with Outdoor Industry Foundation’s Participation Study, the data from OIA’s Topline can prove invaluable.
