People
- Tecnica USA (www.tecnicausa.com) has appointed Jeff Sale as its new Tecnica/Blizzard sales representative for Colorado. Sale will represent all the alpine products for Tecnica and Blizzard, as well as the footwear collections for Tecnica. Sale previously served as North American director of sales for Spyder, and before that was the Colorado territory manager and national key accounts manager for Salomon North America. - John Bercaw (photo, right) has joined Easton Mountain Products (www.eastonmountainproducts.com) in Salt Lake City, Utah, as the company’s new product manager. Bercaw will be an integral part of product development and will oversee snowshoe, tent and trekking pole product lines. Bercaw previously held research, development and marketing positions with Black Diamond Equipment, Chums and Beyond Coastal.
- Jeff Blakely has joined Brooks-Range Mountaineering Equipment (www.brooks-range.com) in Fremont, Calif., as the company’s new general manager. Blakely will oversee all product design and manufacturing, budgeting, marketing and operations. Previously, he worked for 14 years at Marmot before starting his own product design company, Jigsaw Pass. Blakely had been a consultant to Brooks-Range in 2010, before being hired fulltime.
- Suunto (www.suunto.com), in Ogden, Utah, has added skier and mountaineer Greg Hill to its professional athlete team. Hill will represent Suunto’s outdoor category of wristtop computers. In 2010, Hill became the first person to log 2 million vertical feet of ski-touring in one year.
- Rick Hess has joined Beyond Coastal (www.beyondcoastal.com) and Chums (www.chums.com) as the companies’ new Florida-based sales representative. Hess will manage accounts for Beyond Coastal and Chums outdoor sports and surf retailers. His background includes 11 years as a sales rep, an angling retail shop owner, and a design consultant for angling industry brands. Click here to read more.
- Oakley Europe (www.oakley.com) has named James Harrison brand manager, replacing Urs Egli who has left the company. Harrison, who will be responsible for footwear, apparel and accessories, began his career in 1997 as retail development manager for Nike in France. Most recently, he oversaw men’s apparel for Asics in Europe, a post he’d had since April 2010.
- Burton Snowboards (www.burton.com) has named Philippe Gouzes as its news senior vice-president. Gouzes was formerly European sales manager, a position he’d held since 2002.
- Yann Tschumi is the news European sales director for Rip Curl (www.ripcurl.com). He worked previously at Rip Curl frm 1998 to 2003 before he moved to Oakley. Most recently, he was at VF Corp., where he oversaw Vans and Reef for the French and Spanish markets.
Contracts
- GoLite (www.golite.com), in Boulder, Colo., announced an agreement with Gore-Tex to provide fabric for Golite’s premium flagship garments in its 2011 fall/winter outerwear collection. Gore’s Pro Shell, Paclite and Windstopper fabrics will be featured on Golite’s new Ashdown, Currant Mountain and Borrego jackets, respectively.
- La Sportiva (www.lasportiva.com) has entered into a new joint venture with the Fulgent Sun Group, La Sportiva’s Asian manufacturing partner, to distribute La Sportiva product in China. The two companies have created a new corporate entity called Fujian La Sportiva Co. Ltd. to further develop and promote the La Sportiva brand in Asia.

- REI (www.rei.com) annouced plans to open a new store in Greenville, S.C., by fall 2011. The one-story, 22,000-square-foot store will be located at the intersection of Interstate 85 and Woodruff Road. Click here to read more.

- Austin Canoe and Kayak (www.austinkayak.com) has partnered with Phunware to develop and launch the ACK Kayak Launch Points App for iPhone and iPod Touch. The app ($1.99) is pre-loaded with more than 14,000 marked kayak and canoe launch points. Users can find, rate, share the launch points, and submit new launch points for the database.
