The SNEWS® team is continually weeding through all the press release fluffery and mounds of show announcements to bring you only the events we believe are really worth the time. To that end, mark your calendars for the following, in this, our final Winter Market preview:
It’s all about fashion and it’s worth the time to see
Plot some time in your calendar to attend one of the Winter Market Fashion Shows. Exhibitors will present the latest trends for fall/winter/holiday 2006-07. The runway presentations will be held in the Salt Palace Meeting Room 251D at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day of the show except the last day, when the only show is at 11 a.m. The Winter Market Fashion Show will feature professional models in both men’s and women’s rugged outerwear, casual apparel, footwear and accessories. This year’s Fashion Show sponsors include ExOfficio, Gramicci, Sportif and Spyder, and will feature nearly 100 additional brands, combined into themed segments. Jeffery Burke Productions and Webb Audio Visual, both based in Salt Lake City, will produce the runway presentations. Â
Get Keen about supporting the Conservation Alliance
Keen Footwear will host a fund-raising event on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 5 p.m. for The Conservation Alliance at its booth (5324) during Winter Market. For starters, Keen will give a pair of shoes to anyone who donates $35 to The Conservation Alliance. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Patagonia and Prana have also donated product to the event. The first six people who contribute $100 to the Alliance will receive a Patagonia down jacket — a $135 donation will fetch both the jacket and Keen shoes. Prana has added several different items to the mix.
Clive brings art gallery to Winter Market to benefit outdoor youth programs
Clive, maker of stylized and innovative everyday bags, backpacks and accessories, presents its inaugural 2006 Clive Art Reality Project (CARP), a live art and gallery presentation. Salt Lake City artists Trent Call (www.swinj.com/home/home.html) and Sri Whipple will create works of art on site, including one-of-a-kind artist manipulated Clive bags. Additionally, Clive, in collaboration with Salt Lake City’s Unknown Gallery (www.unkgallery.com), will feature a compelling international and local artist gallery display along the Clive booth wall. All on-site and gallery art creations will be raffled to raise funds for outdoor youth programs. CARP culminates on Monday, Jan. 30, at 4:30 p.m. with a Clive booth reception, with music (local DJ), beer, giveaways and raffle fund-raiser.
Barker and Schlesinger spinning tales and mixing drinks — now that’s a party!
Be sure to help Eagle Creek celebrate its 30th anniversary the right way, with margaritas and a brief (so the company promises, but then this is Schlesinger and Barker we’re talking about…), nostalgic, albeit strange, company story as only company founder and CEO Steve Barker, and his long-time accomplice, Executive Vice President Ricky Schlesinger, can bring. Have your notebooks handy because we are sure some nifty tidbits will be revealed that might be useful during those moments when it would be good to have some dirt on hand. SNEWS® will be there for sure, just in case some extra flavor needs adding to stories Barker and Schlesinger might be trying to water down. The party begins at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, at booth 3707. And here’s the kicker. Come by the booth on Saturday or before the party on Sunday for a “party ticket” to ensure you get to score a filled, take-home margarita shaker with party logo.
Highgear is toasting the U.S. ski and snowboard teams the right way — with wine
Plan to spin by Highgear booth 1605 on Day 1 or Day 2 of Winter Market between 4-6 p.m. Highgear has partnered with Redwood Creek wines to serve two wines from its adventurous portfolio, an award-winning Pinot Noir and a fresh, floral Pinot Grigio both evenings of the event. A representative from Redwood Creek will be on hand to answer your outdoor food and wine pairing questions, and to share news of an exciting national tour launching in 2006. And, if you spend enough time at the Highgear booth, you might be lucky enough to take home your own bottle of Redwood Creek! But the fun doesn’t stop with wine — oh no. Highgear, in partnership with Rossignol, will give away a pair of 9X WC skis signed by World Champion medalist, Julia Mancuso. These boards are the exact model worn by Mancuso at the 2005 World Championship when she took the bronze in both the Super G and Giant Slalom. Mancuso is off to a great start this season and is expected to contend for five medals in Torino, Italy, at the Olympics. In addition, thanks to Spyder, Highgear will give away an official U.S. Team jacket (fall 2006) as part of the package — the very jacket that the U.S. team wears. This jacket is due to hit retail shops in fall 2006 and is a part of Spyder’s Authentics collection. To enter the sweepstakes, all you have to do is drop your card off at the Highgear booth. The winner will be announced on Feb. 10, the opening day of the Olympic Winter Games.
