We’ve all been getting a lot of bleak news lately. Sometimes, you just need a little break. That was the idea that led Koby Crooks, a sales rep at The Alpine Cowboy in Austin, Texas, and puzzle aficionado to create an outdoor activity book for staff of the retail stores he works with and distribute it as form of educational distraction, a means of forgetting the pandemic and engaging with the outdoor industry at the same time. It’s one more way these difficult times are bringing out everyone’s creativity and willingness to help each other.
Designed around some of the brands Alpine Cowboy represents—Yakima, Osprey, and Nemo—the book contains nine pages of activities like crosswords, word searches, and Mad Libs-style storytelling games. Crooks, whom one colleague described as “a savant rep and creative genius” said he hopes to accomplish three things with the book: “getting staff to take a mental brake while still engaging with brands; imparting technical product information in a new format; and keeping peoples’ chins up.”
Print out the full activity book, below, and enjoy. The news will still be there tomorrow.
