In the continuing onslaught of January and February consumer magazines with features on fitness and workout equipment (ah, tapping into the New Year’s resolution exercisers), comes Outside magazine’s January issue with a feature on “Three perfect home gyms.”
For the article, magazine editors chose setups for three different levels of needs, depth of pockets and devotion to style or trendiness. The lead admits that the first thing to go on a busy day is a workout. “But you can reverse that effect with an intelligent thing called the home gym,” the magazine stated, while also eliminating travel time to a club.
In “Dream Setup #1” called “The Spartan Loft” (with a total price tag of less than $2,000), the Hoist Fitness Rocketlok dumbbell and barbell set is combined with the Cycleops Pro 300PT Indoor Cycle.
In setup No. 2 called “The Performance Lab,” you find the True 550ZTX Ci treadmill, as well as what the magazine calls “the Cadillac of all-in-one weight-lifting machines,” the Hoist V5. Also included is the StairMaster ClubStride 5100 elliptical (total about $15,000), not to mention a flat screen TV.
The last setup is called “The Zen Studio,” and is all about alternative and mind-body practices. In it is Balanced Body’s Studio Pilates Reformer, Water Rower’s rowing machine, yoga props like blocks and ropes from Custom Yoga Props, and Fitter’s Classic Exercise Ball, as well as the schmantziest of water bottles, jump ropes and yoga mats. Little stuff adds up, with this setup reaching a total of about $4,200. More at www.outsidemag.com.
