Peter Haines starts small-business consulting firm

Five months after leaving his post as show director for The Super Show, former Cybex CEO Peter Haines has launched a consulting business aimed at giving small businesses and start-ups a solid leg-up.

Called Horizon Growth Advisors, the business will and already is working with companies in the sporting goods and fitness arena, but not exclusively, Haines told SNEWS®.

“Everybody in the sports products industry who wants to build a company, we can tell them,” he said. “The business plan process can translate across industries because it’s all the same stuff.”

The goal is to advise companies looking to grow manageably or those who need help identifying sources of capital, he said. Haines will tap into a network of advisors he uses, including legal, financial and management.

“We want to help small businesses establish their horizons, and sometimes you can’t see it,” Haines said. “If you’re not growing, you’re cheating.

“I can help the little guy,” he added.

His first client group includes a marine industry firm, a fitness product company and a special event production company.

Haines also joked that he resisted becoming a “consultant” since he too thought that’s what unemployed executives call themselves, but his advisors pushed him to do so, “I’m up and running.” At first, after leaving The Super Show, he had looked for a business to run or even to acquire, he said.
