Proderma, maker of a full range of preventative and restorative personal skin-care products, has been awarded the Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation as an effective UV sunscreen. To earn the seal, Proderma proved that its products aid in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin by offering an SPF of 15 or greater, independent validation of the SPF number by testing on a human panel in accordance with FDA regulations, acceptable test results for phototoxic reactions and contact irritation, and substantiation that the sunscreen is water-resistant. The Proderma products that met the Skin Cancer Foundation requirements are SPF 30 Sunscreen, SPF 30 Lip Balm, SPF 30 Face Stick, SPF 18 Face Moisturizer and the SPF 18 Body Lotion. This new rating means that qualifying Proderma products are recommended as effective aids in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin, including sunburn and possibly premature aging. The Foundation’s Photobiology Committee, comprised of physicians who specialize in the effects of solar radiation, determines whether a sunscreen satisfies the foundation’s criteria.
