Taking his first steps into Minnesota, Scott Egbert has sealed a deal to acquire the assets of the four Minnesota stores associated with the Push Pedal Pull chain.
The acquisition drops Push Pedal Pull to 11 stores in five states — South Dakota, Oklahoma, North Dakota, New Mexico and Iowa — while it jumps holdings claimed by the Home Fitness stores run by Egbert to 55, with a fifth Precor Home Fitness in Washington opening this winter. Egbert’s four retail brands, all separate businesses, include Chicago Home Fitness/Fitness Experts with 26 stores, American Home with 18, Utah Home with three, and Precor Home to become five before the end of the year.
“It’s just an opportunity, and we took it,” Egbert told SNEWS®. “We’ll do things there like we do in the other markets.”
The former Push Pedal Pull stores will carry the name Northstar Home Fitness. Rob Ignasek, former general manager at the flagship Chicago Home Fitness store on upscale Halsted Avenue, has moved to Minnesota to run the stores in that state, Egbert said.
As to changes in Minnesota brands, layout, staff or management, he said the company “will evaluate as we go.”
“We’ll make it a success,” he added. “We’ll do a lot. Just stay tuned.”
Push Pedal Pull executives were not available for comment by deadline, but that company will maintain the commercial, service and delivery business in Minnesota. According to Push Pedal Pull’s website, the chain has carried Precor as its main brand, backing that up with Horizon, SportsArt, Diamondback, TuffStuff and Schwinn/Bowflex. The chain had closed a New Jersey location last year.
SNEWS® View: This move takes Egbert’s holdings directly face-to-face with 2nd Wind Exercise in 2nd Wind’s home state only two months after 2nd Wind CEO Dick Enrico opened the first of several dozen stores planned in Egbert’s home Chicago market.
