Responding to a growing community of more than 60,000 active members, Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) announced plans today to open a third store in the Boston region in spring 2003 in the 1920s-era Landmark Center building in the Fenway neighborhood. The 26,000-square-foot Landmark Center store, at the intersection of Boylston Street, Park Drive and Brookline Avenue, will employ about 85 full- and part-time staff. The store will provide a full selection of top outdoor brands, as well as REI’s own exclusive line of gear and clothing for hiking, camping, climbing, cycling, paddling and winter sports. A bike repair shop underneath the store will have a separate entrance from the garage.
