“This is my new favorite shirt.” Those are the words straight from the mouth of a SNEWS editor — a comment never made lightly. From the backwaters of Florida, to Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp, we’ve spent months putting this shirt through some hot, sweaty paces. The 2.9-ounce CoolMax Extreme Ripstop fabric is not only light, but durable. And just as important, it’s very soft, so the Extreme Expedition doesn’t feel too much like a synthetic shirt. Granted, we’d prefer to live out the rest of our lives without ever seeing the word “extreme” applied to another outdoor product, but this shirt doesn’t appear extreme. We’re not sure of the precise fashion phrase, but it’s not too heavy on the geeky technical look. You can sit down to dinner in a restaurant without your wardrobe screaming, “Hi! I’m an adventure traveler! Can’t you tell by my clothes!?” Plus, the fabric hardly wrinkles at all, and even after several washings, it drapes nicely.

Most importantly, the shirt looks great and functions very well, moving moisture effectively and drying quickly. One nice detail — should you work up a sweat, a soft Dri-Xtreme liner along the back and collar prevents chafing.

Our only complaint is that the “hidden” buttons under the collar aren’t quite hidden enough, but they do preserve a “casual” look, while preventing the collar from flapping in the wind.
