The security guard at the bottom of the main escalator to the upstairs Sands Expo halls at The Super Show just has to make your day. Chuck has to make the day of anyone attending any show there. For the first part of the day, he calls out in his cheery voice to every single incoming attendee the likes of “Top of the mornin’ to you,” “Welcome to the show,” “Have a great day,” or “Remember, you’re not completely dressed without a smile.” And he usually punctuates the phrases with waves that would make Miss America in the Rose Bowl parade turn green with envy. Then, later in the afternoon, he switches over to waving goodbye: “Nighty-night,” “Have a nice evening,” and “Hope to see you aaaaaaaalllllll tomorrah!”
SNEWS View: So used to grinding in and grunting back out of shows with serious looks plastered on faces and eyes cast downward to avoid unintended interactions with others, most attendees look a tad bit startled at Chuck’s perky salutations, admonishments to smile and, ohmigosh, interaction. But, you know what? The energy on the escalator picks up. Attendees who don’t even know each other actually exchange some words and giggles. And you end up walking into the show — or out into the evening at the end of the day — with a little cheer. Thanks, Chuck. Keep it up!
