Friends in the outdoor industry,
Once again the Buffalo Peak Outfitters family would like to thank you for your generous outpouring of needed supplies, concern and prayers in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She certainly left her mark on the Gulf Coast, but more importantly, you left your mark on the hearts of many Mississippians.
The rebuilding of the Gulf Coast has expectedly proven to be a slow and arduous task. Though progress has been made, it will take a long time before people re-establish themselves in their old neighborhoods. Despite the slow passage of time during the rebuilding process, the fact of the matter is the resilient people of the Gulf Coast are getting their lives and property back in order, piece by piece, with the continued help of caring outsiders.
We hope you will consider volunteering to come down and work a few days or a week. Opportunity abounds. Just drive through a neighborhood and when you see someone working, get out, introduce yourself and start helping. Bear in mind you will need to be self-sufficient for the most part. Motel space is very limited (bring your tent), but food and water is available.
If you’re not sure about logistics — where to fly in, picking up a rental car, personal items you’ll need to bring, etc. — give Tommy Smith a call at our store at 601-366-2557, and he’ll be able to provide answers to many of your questions. Â
We are including a link to an excellent editorial entitled “Six Months After Katrina” taken from the The Sun Herald that we hope you will read. We thought it was very well done.
At the end of this letter we have included the names of people and companies who have helped. Undoubtedly, we have omitted someone, so please accept our apologies if that someone is you. Â
