SNEWS® Live: Reaching the summits of the highest mountains on the world’s seven continents has been accomplished by a select few, including Kit DesLauriers. But DesLauriers is the first and only person who can also say she has skied off the top of those summits — a journey she recently concluded on Oct. 18, 2006, with a risky but successful autumn ascent of Mount Everest. Her team included her husband Rob Deslauriers, climbers Dave Hahn and Wally Berg, and adventure photographer Jimmy Chin.
Now safely back home, DesLauriers said she plans to continue her career in climbing and to inspire others to follow their passions wherever they may lead. SNEWS® Live spoke with DesLauriers at a celebrity reception in the Ice Lounge during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, hosted by The North Face. She and others lent their star appeal at the Ice Lounge to raise awareness about the effects of global warming.
