SNEWS® Live: The Outdoor Foundation, formerly known as the Outdoor Industry Foundation, has a new executive director. Christine Fanning is taking over as head of the charitable arm of the Outdoor Industry Association. Charged with addressing several philanthropic initiatives important to outdoor professionals, Fanning said her primary focus would be on the daunting task of introducing the next generation of young people to the outdoors.

Set to support the many youth outreach programs across the country, the Outdoor Foundation has pledged to invest $100 million over the next 10 years through its newly announced “I Will” campaign. Fanning aims to rally outdoor businesses and their employees, as well as individuals and companies in other industries, to do what they can to get kids in their communities involved in outdoor recreation.

Shortly after she was formally introduced to the industry at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah, SNEWS® Live sat down with Fanning to learn more about her background and plans to lead the Outdoor Foundation.
