Marketing director, Nexersys

Tell our readers about the history of your company:

Terry Jones, Nexersys CEO, formed Nexersys in September 2009 in Austin, Texas with the intention to develop, manufacture and distribute a unique fitness product for home and gym use that the entire family could use. Since its formation, Nexersys has developed and delivered equipment, hardware, software and content. Nexersys released its home and commercial models at the UFC Fan Expo on October 7, 2011 in Houston. Nexersys debuted the Pro model at the Health and Fitness Business Expo in September 2012. In addition to revealing the Pro model in September 2012, Nexersys launched its partnership with an exclusive EMEA distributor, Re:Creation Fitness at the Leisure Industry Show at the NEC Birmingham.

What makes Nexersys products different from any other on the market?

Nexersys is leading a fitness revolution and pioneering the expanding “Exergaming” market with the intelligent and interactive Nexersys. Combining the latest in exercise equipment and interactive gaming, Nexersys is a professional-grade multimedia fitness product that delivers the motivation of a personal trainer, the benefits of a mixed martial arts high-intensity interval training workout, and the entertainment and feedback available from today’s gaming and computer technology. Nexersys provides a unique combination of cardio, strength, endurance and mental acuity training in a single, revolutionary piece of equipment.

What are some big trends you’re noticing emerging in fitness equipment?

Fitness equipment must encourage interactivity and community to continue to be successful. The next generation of products will need to be increasingly proactive, reminding and encouraging individuals to exercise. Nexersys was developed as an interactive fitness machine. Continued development will allow for wireless uploads of workout data where users can easily share their workout progress and statistics. Nexersys is also committed to developing a fitness community that will allow users to connect across the U.S., UK and Canada on Nexersys specific workouts and progress.

What is the biggest challenge facing the fitness industry and how can we overcome it?

One of the biggest challenges is anticipating what customers need and/or want before they even know they need or want it. The goal for Nexersys is to keep our product interesting, fun and challenging. People want to see results and it is important to develop fitness programs that demonstrate not only how the machine works, but how it leads to fat loss, increased stamina, mental acuity and overall weight loss.

What do specialty fitness retailers need to do to remain profitable in the future?

They need the ability to offer the best fitness equipment on the market. Customers want what is new and different and what will offer them the best results the fastest. Based on trends, customers want interactive equipment that will provide reminders and help them connect with others that have the same goals as they do. At Nexersys, we are meeting that demand with interactive workouts, community offerings and Wi-Fi enabling our equipment. Our goal is to continue to develop our product so that it remains unlike anything customers have ever seen and to assist retailers with key programs that make it easy for them to sell the equipment. Getting customers on machine is the best way to help them experience the Nexersys and we are the first to offer an “Attract and Engage” mode where a customer can walk up and immediately experience a workout without much direction from the sales staff.
