The SNEWS annual FitBiz Retailer Report provides our readers with store counts and information on the state of specialty fitness retail industry of the past year and where its headed for the next.

We have begun collecting data for this year’s report, which will be our tenth annual. Click here to see last year’s report.

For 2011 we tallied 301 fitness storefronts comprising of three or more locations and we found that there was mostly good news as several companies took advantage of an uptick in the economy along inexpensive funding and real estate to add new stores. Plus a majority of business who had been closing stores throughout the recession, finally held firm.

When we chatted with business owners last year, we heard a lot of optimism in the their responses regarding 2012 and how it was shaping up to be a good year for specialty fitness retail. We’ll find out if that was, in fact, the case.

Throughout the next month, our team will reach to the fitness retailers on our list to update our figures and gain insight on how business is going. But feel free to reach out to us first. We’re looking for companies with three or more storefronts open in 2012, so if you’ve opened a third store this past year, please send us an email at news@snewsnet.com with the subject line “FitBiz Report” with your information.

Here’s the information we’re seeking:

>> Address (headquarters)

>> Phone number

>> Website

>> Number of storefronts in 2012

>> Number of storefronts in 2011

And new this year, we’ll ask for the number of employees as an additional optional piece of information to break ties in the rankings. Also, feel free to share with us a few sentences on how business is going and your view of the industry’s current and future health.
