Cascade Designs, parent company of Mountain Safety Research, announced this week it is recalling some avalanche rescue probes because they may not lock into place properly, rendering them ineffective.
No injuries or incidents have been reported, but defective units won’t function properly in times of need, making it more difficult or even impossible to find an avalanche victim.
About 1,600 MSR Striker 320 and Striker 240 avalanche probes are affected. In defective units, the lock button fails to engage.
If you think you have a defective unit, stop using it immediately and contact Cascade Designs for a refund or free replacement.
For more information or to request a refund or a new unit, call Cascade Designs at (800) 531-9531, or see its press release about the recall.
