Wagner Custom Skis Grab Two Medals in Skiing Magazine Test
Telluride, CO (October 5th, 2011) – Wagner Custom Skis, the Telluride, Colorado-based leader in custom ski fitting science, today announced their Official Selection Medals for 2 different models submitted in the spring 2011 Skiing Magazine Independent Ski Manufacturer’s test in Aspen, Colorado.
Submitted as “everyday†models for western and eastern skiers, the Wagner 110 Custom and Women’s 87 Custom were selected from around 40 models as standouts, and therefore will receive “Official Selection Medals†in an upcoming issue of Skiing to hit newsstands on 11/1/11. The Aspen event featured 15-20 testers each evaluating about 20 different skis per day. Each pair was used for one run and then testers filled out cards reflecting their responses for categories like flotation, stability at speed, energy, forgiveness, crud performance, versatility and overall impression. After talking with each of the testers informally, the editors awarded the top tier of skis an “Official Selection†medal.
CEO Pete Wagner commented, “We submitted 2 types of construction: 1 for the “everyday†western ski and 1 for the “everyday†eastern ski. Everyday western skis had all-Aspen cores with fiberglass structural layers and a Carbon Fiber Torsion box. Everyday eastern skis had maple/aspen cores with 2 sheets of Titanal for the structural layers.†Wagner went on to say, “As always, with our skis, we gave them reinforced sidewalls, extra thick bases, oversize carbon steel edges, and lots of love from our Wagner Custom production Jedi’s.â€
Because of Wagner Custom’s unique business model, the skis built for the test are only partway to the level of customization that is generally tailored for a specific customer. Skiing Magazine Assistant Editor Kevin Luby said, “Since Wagner Custom makes only fully custom skis, the results are a bit trickier but the skis Wagner brought to our Aspen test impressed the hell out of our testers which leads us to believe that they could make a great pair of skis for anyone.â€
Wagner Custom enters their sixth season as a leader in the growing niche of independent ski makers. New for this season, a Carbon Fiber Torsion Box construction option that dramatically reduces weight in fat skis while reinforcing a ski’s torsional stiffness. Skiing Magazine’s Independent Ski Maker test results will be available on newsstands and at over 700 specialty retail stores on November 1st, 2011.
