Salomon is gearing up for a road show to introduce its new radically shaped BBR ski to America.
The tour starts Dec. 10 in New England, and finishes up four months later on April 2 with a demo and a party at Alta, Utah, hitting 40 resorts along the way.
“Salomon athlete Seth Warner will haul a cache of BBR demo samples to virtually every area of the nation throughout the winter to give consumers a sneak peek and ultimate ride,” said Jenny Naftulin, Salomon’s alpine brand manager.
Designed by Salomon ski designer Bertrand Krafft (aka: BeBeR) — who also designed Salomon’s game-changing X Scream Series of skis in the late ’90s, as well as the Pocket Rocket — the BBR features an immediately noticeable oversized tip, narrow waist and pintail design.
The oversized V-shaped dimensions, 147/89/110, combined with a rocker shape, are designed to give the ski that Holy Grail of alpine performance — float in the powder, as well as edge hold and control on harder snow.
According to Naftulin, the “Shape Your Adventure Tour” road show aims to build buzz for the BBR by proving that performance on the snow.
“Experiencing the ski first-hand is going to be essential in the launch process,” Naftulin said. “This is not the product where you sit around and talk sidecut and turn radius. This is a ski to enjoy and experience for yourself.”
Salomon has produced 100 limited edition “Blue skis,” as Naftulin calls the BBR, that it is offering at 15 separate stores across the country, each individually numbered at the base with a badge. The ski will be formally introduced at the SnowSports Industries America Snow Show in Denver in January, then available from all Salomon dealers in fall 2011.
