Star Trac’s new Pro Elite treadmill that interfaces with a Palm device to communicate workouts and act as an exercise log managed some airtime on CNN during the key New Year’s Resolution period. On New Year’s Day, the treadmill — the one SNEWS wrote about in October — was featured on two, 2:30-minute features on CNN Headline News with anchor and technology correspondent Daniel Sieberg. Sieberg demonstrated how the treadmill and Palm work together. It’s the first treadmill and piece of fitness equipment to wirelessly exchange workout data and programming with a Palm-powered handheld device. The software allows users to “beam” workout data to and from the treadmill, and users can download the software from the StarTrac website for installation. Placed in the left cupholder, the Palm controls the treadmill, including hills, speed and time, based on how it is programmed, then records the workout completed. Star Trac will also show the treadmill at the Consumer Electronics Showcase Jan. 9 in Las Vegas.
