VF Corporation announced today that, as part of wider organizational changes meant to better align the company’s leadership, Steve Murray will be promoted to global brand president of The North Face. Murray replaces former TNF president Arne Arens, who will leave VF to pursue opportunities elsewhere. As part of the restructuring, Murray’s former position as president of the Americas region will be eliminated.
“Steve is an incredibly strong and well-respected leader who knows our industry inside and out,” said VF chief executive Steve Rendle in a statement announcing the news. “I look forward to working even more closely with him.”
Murray brings extensive industry experience to the role, including more than four years as president of Vans following VF’s acquisition of the brand in 2004, and a year as president of VF’s Action Sports division.
“As we work to become a more integrated brand-building company, we must operate differently and manage our core and emerging brands in differentiated ways in order to help each of them achieve their full potential,” said Rendle. “As we do this, it’s critical that we place our strongest talent on our most important opportunities to drive long-term, sustainable growth across our portfolio and in all geographies.”
As part of the changes, the leaders of VF’s three core brands—The North Face, Timberland, and Vans—will now report directly to Rendle. In addition to Murray, these include Doug Palladini, global brand president for Vans, and Martino Scabbia Guerrini, interim global brand president for Timberland. VF is currently seeking a permanent president for Timberland, with Scabbia Guerrini serving temporarily. Kevin Bailey, president of the Asia Pacific region and emerging brands at VF, will also report directly to Rendle.
