Outdoors Inc., a Tennessee-based specialty retailer with four retail locations, had its 5-year-old Entre Pris portable climbing wall stolen from the company’s office/warehouse parking lot.
“It’s a gray-colored wall with multi-colored holds mounted on a black trailer that is approximately 32 feet long,” Lawrence Migliara, co-owner of Outdoors Inc., told SNEWS®. “The unit weighs approximately 6,000 pounds, so the vehicle towing it has to be pretty substantial.”
Migliara told us that police reported someone seeing a portable climbing wall being pulled down Interstate 40, heading toward Little Rock, Ark. Whether or not it was the same wall is unknown, but, as Migliara points out, there aren’t too many 35-foot-long trailers with climbing walls mounted on them in the state.
The wall was purchased by Outdoors Inc. for around $30,000 and was used by the retailer for special events and promotions.
“No doubt this was premeditated,” said Migliara. “Someone had to have cased out the parking lot, known the hitch size needed, had tools to cut the chain securing the trailer to a telephone pole, and then had a vehicle large enough to tow it away.”
Migliara told us someone would probably put the wall up in a barn somewhere and use it for a personal climbing playground.
Anyone with any information is encouraged to call Migliara at the warehouse (901-324-2506) or on his mobile phone (901-503-1499).
