First Descents, a Colorado-based young adult cancer non-profit organization, kicks off its first Team FD fundraising event for 2011 with the 2nd Annual Climbing for Cancer event on Saturday, April 30th . The nationwide fundraiser will include climbing events in seven different cities: Los Angeles, Boulder, Denver, Chicago, Dallas and Washington, D.C.
In honor of the 70,000 young adults diagnosed with cancer each year, Team FD hopes to climb a total of 70,000 vertical feet during the one-day Climbing for Cancer event. A minimum of $25 raised will get climbers entrance into participating climbing gyms on April 30th.The idea is to spend the day climbing for fun, funds and awareness of young adults with cancer.
Team FD is First Descents’ athlete-driven fundraising force, made up of athletes at various levels of competition each sharing the goal of supporting the young adult cancer population.
“Climbing for Cancer is a great way for Team FD to jump start the 2011 season,” says First Descents Events and Communication Manager Rebekah Koenigbauer. “We’ll all be climbing across the country for an awesome cause. Is there a better way to spend your Saturday?”
