Veteran fitness, sporting goods and recreation reporter John Agoglia has joined the SNEWS®/GearTrends® staff as of Jan. 1, solidifying a group of reporters and editors considered the most well-respected and knowledgeable in the industry.

“The opportunity to work with a dedicated, respected and, at appropriate times, controversial group of professionals that actually care about the industries they cover is refreshing as other B2B media become increasingly corporate and detached,” Agoglia said about his decision.

He was most recently the editor-in-chief at Fitness Business Pro, formerly Club Industry magazine. Agoglia left that position in mid-December when parent company Primedia began corporate-wide layoffs.

“We are of course utterly thrilled to be working with one of the most knowledgeable fitness and sports business reporters in the country,” said Therese Iknoian, SNEWS® co-publisher and editor-in-chief. “Plus, he’s simply an all-around talented journalist.”

SNEWS® Co-publisher Michael Hodgson added, “If you were looking to launch a fitness pub for the trade and wanted the best journalists in that field to head your team, Therese and John would top the list. No question, we absolutely have the strongest fitness reporting team anywhere. No other fitness publication can boast the collective industry knowledge, veteran reporting skills, or inside connections. The fact that both share a whacky sense of humor is only a bonus.”

Prior to his stint at Club Industry, Agoglia grew up through the ranks at the now-defunct Health & Fitness Business magazine, moving from intern and free-lance contributor to an editor to the editor-in-chief. At the same time, he was associate editor for fitness at Sporting Goods Business. Not only has he studied journalism and has solid business reporting experience, he also has hands-on experience in fitness, having spent years as a personal trainer in New York. He’s also a die-hard sports fan – you name it, he watches it – and has been a long-time Mets fan. Just ask him sometime about the 2004 World Series and playoffs….

“I am excited to be able to help the SNEWS®/GearTrends® team provide meaningful news and analysis that will help the readers do their business better,” Agoglia said.
