Who’s on the move: Chris Tamucci at Honey Stinger; Brian Unmacht at REI; Gary Smith at Polartec; and more

- REI has promoted Brian Unmacht to chief operating officer, expanding his role to oversee retail, ecommerce, merchandising, private brands, information technology and supply chain divisions. Unmacht started at REI as a store supervisor in 1986. In the years that followed, he rose through retail management to key leader roles, including regional district manager, director of retail operations, and senior vice president of retail. In 2008, he was named executive vice president over sales, service, store development and logistics.
- Polartec, LLC, a global supplier of performance fabrics sold under the Polartec brand, recently appointed Gary Smith to chief executive officer; and Joe Robinson to chief financial officer. Smith, 49, brings to Polartec extensive expertise in the outdoor and apparel industries. He previously served as president of the Outdoor Group for The Timberland Company, and as a partner with McKinsey and Company. A life-long New Englander and an accomplished entrepreneur, Smith is also a passionate cyclist and avid mountaineer. Robinson, 46, joins Polartec after serving most recently as vice president, corporate finance with inVentiv Health. He previously served as vice president, global finance and vice president, North America finance, for the Converse division of Nike. Additionally, his career includes 18 years of progressive growth in financial and operational roles with Procter and Gamble’s Gillette group. Smith and Robinson, together with Jon Adelman, Polartec’s current executive vice president, global sales and marketing, comprise Polartec’s new senior leadership team. - Honey Stinger, a manufacturer of honey-based nutritional products, recently announced several promotions and new hires aimed at supporting the company’s sales growth across all categories. Long-time team member Chris Tamucci has been named the brand’s first director of operations. He will oversee all IT, warehouse, customer service and operations staff. Tamucci has been a member of the staff since 2006, working in several different capacities including sales, IT and warehouse operations.
Kat Fagan has transitioned from the sales team to events coordinator, a newly created role within the marketing department. Honey Stinger continues to increase its expo and sampling presence at competitive events, national trade shows and grassroots community events.
Marketing has also added graphic designer Kyle Olsen to the team to help with increased project demand.
Craig Rench joins the sales team from the operations staff of Steamboat Springs-based brand Big Agnes and will focus on bicycle category sales. The company has also expanded IT and warehouse departments with the addition of former Smartwool staff member Steven Geer and Bill Martorano, respectively.
