Jennifer Mull, president and CEO of Backwoods, and an OIA board member, will present a webinar classroom, “Branching Out Without Losing Your Roots,” on June 9, 2010, at 2 p.m. MST. The Outdoor University is an affiliate of the SNEWS® Retail College, and as such, this classroom remains open to all OIA members and SNEWS subscribers for free — access links to download the presentation PDF and view the webinar below.

“Dance with the one that brung ya!” is a great, yet potentially fatal statement for a retailer. Concepts, core values, vendors and products – or roots – have all made a retailer “who they are today.” These roots are a retailer’s essence and have been critical keys to their success and should be honored. However, the “new and innovative” along with change in key areas of a business, are often absolutely required for long-term success. How a retailer balances these two “opposing” requirements can be the linchpin to their ultimate, and continued, growth and success.

In this 60-minute Webinar, Mull will cover:

  • Methods to evaluate what “roots” are really foundational vs. which “roots” died a long time ago or should be laid to rest!
  • Once the foundational roots are identified – how to meld the old and new.
  • Realizing the “grief” cycle as an underlying key factor in this process and how to move through it efficiently and effectively.

If you are not an OIA member, you can listen to the webinar without having to pony up $99 as long as you are a SNEWS subscriber — SNEWS subscribers are able to participate in any Outdoor University program for free.
