SNEWS® Live:  Each year about 270 million people visit national parks in the United States. But only a fraction of park visitors have made an attempt to see them all. Richard Wixon was barely 18 and living on a Marine base in Hawaii when he climbed Kilauea Volcano and peered down at the bubbling lava. This was his introduction to the wonders that can be found inside of the nation’s national parks. His work as a Marine during World War II, and more recently as a Red Cross volunteer, gave Wixon the chance to travel widely.
