We’re heartbroken to report that the outdoor community lost one of its own in recent days. Aliaa Abaza, the Adventure Travel Trade Association’s community lead for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, passed away last weekend from complications of COVID-19.

Aliaa is the first member of the outdoor industry SNEWS has confirmed to have lost her life to the coronavirus. Following the announcement of her passing, colleagues described her as “a bright light for all of us.”

CEO Shannon Stowell released the following video yesterday confirming Aliaa’s passing, in which he also states that several other ATTA members are “actively fighting COVID-19 infections.”

ATTA has published a full tribute for Aliaa on its website.
