John Carter, founder and former owner of HomeFit Exercise Equipment in Canada has died of prostate cancer, May 18, at the age of 60. The 27-year-old fitness retail business he built will live on.

John Carter, founder and former owner of HomeFit Exercise Equipment in Canada has died of prostate cancer, May 18, at the age of 60.
Carter was a well-respected dealer for both Canadian and U.S. fitness brands. He founded his fitness retail store in Kitchener, Ontario in 1985 and was well recognized for his catchy radio and television advertisements. The business maintained an “A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau.
“The HomeFit tradition will proudly be carried on in honor of our dear friend,” store officials said.
HomeFit Store Manager Kim Neziol and her husband Dave (who is the sales manager for BH Fitness in the northeast regions of Canada and the United States) purchased HomeFit from Carter in January and will continue to run the fitness specialty retail store in Kitchener that employs seven people.
Carter leaves behind two children and his partner Cindy Jonescu along with other family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held June 10, 2012 at Deer Ridge Golf Club, 200 Deer Ridge Drive, Kitchener, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Grand River Cancer Centre, St. Mary’s men’s health program and the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.
