After an extensive two-month search to replace Tom Adams, Gov. Herbert announced the new director of Utah’s Office of Outdoor Recreation: Patrick “Pitt” Grew. Grew spent his childhood in the mountains of Utah, skiing every weekend with his parents who both worked in the ski industry.

Grew comes to his new position after a three-year stint as marketing director at Bivy.com. Prior to that, he was marketing operations manager at Goal Zero, a customer sales and support manager at Petzl America, and the founder and instructor of Rapid Progression Kayak School. He also spent time as a lift operations supervisor and training coordinator at Utah’s Canyons Resort. Grewe has a bachelor of arts in international studies from Utah State University.

“Utah is my home, and the great outdoors is my playground, my classroom and my passion,” said Grewe who is a fluent Spanish-speaker and a level-4 kayak instructor. He also holds level 2 avalanche certification and is a passionate backcountry skier, climber, whitewater paddler, surfer, fly fisher and cyclist. “I couldn’t be more excited to accept the appointment from Gov. Herbert to be the director of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation. I know we’ll do great things to advance and promote outdoor recreation as part of Utahn’s excellent quality of life.”
