Reeling under a budget deficit brought on by the housing market collapse and other related economic factors, California is being faced with potentially closing up to 48 state parks that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has singled out. Park officials have stated that by closing 48 of the most lightly visited parks, the state would be able to keep open 230 other parks without having to slash an already very thin staff.
