While the outdoor industry may be rattled by Trump’s announcement to reduce the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, there’s no way they’re backing down. These companies, without hesitation, stepped up to make a big move.
Visit Patagonia’s website, and you’ll find a black screen with the message “The President Stole Your Land”, in an effort to encourage the public to keep fighting this announcement. The company plans to file a lawsuit challenging the decision to shrink these monuments.
The North Face
The North Face is donating $100,000 to an education center for Bears Ears. The “Visit with Respect” education center will provide education resources providing insight on local, cultural, and environmental issues.
“Bears Ears is a remarkable, yet fragile, landscape, enjoyed by people of all stripes. With significantly more people visiting its hikes, cliffs and vistas, it needs the infrastructure that a monument designation would provide to protect its cultural and ecological resources,” said Arne Arens, global brand president of The North Face.
Arc’teryx is donating proceeds of U.S. post-Thanksgiving ecommerce sales to The Conservation Alliance plus an additional $30,000 to the alliance’s Public Lands Defense Fund.
The national non-profit rock climbing advocacy organization intends on suing the Trump Administration over Bear’s Ears.
