SNEWS® Live: California residents have expressed disbelief and outrage over Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s proposed plan to shut down state parks. A budget proposal for the 2008/2009 fiscal year would close 48 of California’s 278 state parks and reduce the number of seasonal lifeguards at state beaches.

The park closures would affect 6.5 million visitors to some of the state’s less-popular parks. Last year, California state parks drew 75 million visitors.
