Bell Canoe Works recently received two certificates of award from Zimmerman, Minn-area, high schools for support and service in providing on-the-job training to high school work experience students. The certificates were presented by Work Experience Coordinators Jean Roof and Mike Lindgren on behalf of students Christine Sullivan and Jacob Kepner. Area work programs provide extremely valuable experience for local youth with time on their hands.
Kepner works in canoe lamination and production. He spends his work time prepping molds, building hulls and assisting other production staff members. Sullivan provides support for mailings by prepackaging dealer lists, price sheets and catalogs. She also assists in the assembly of accessory kits. Due to the company’s size, Bell Canoe Works is able to provide flexible schedules, temporary and part-time positions for students. Company Founder Ted Bell has hired and trained local students who have desired work since he started the company 15 years ago.
SNEWS® View: Mentoring in its finest form. We’d give Bell a standing ovation, but it’s hard to type while standing and clapping, so we hope they’ll simply accept our virtual applause. SNEWS® would like to hear from other manufacturers which have similar mentoring programs that support the community and our youth.
