Did you hear?… Away.com and Outside magazine to release results of an adventure travel survey

Away.com and Outside magazine will be releasing the full results of an adventure travel survey at the International Adventure Travel and Outdoor Sports Show this Saturday at Navy Pier, in Chicago, Ill. The survey, conducted post Sept. 11, queried Outside Online visitors, Outside magazine subscribers, Away.com users, and adventure travel clients. According to Outside, 2,600 individuals and 62 travel operators responded. A preliminary summary of the results found that 85 percent of those responding say they will travel as much or even more in 2002 as they did last year. Only 8 percent of those responding said they would be less likely to fly, which is in contrast to the Gallup poll that reported 45 percent of general travelers were somewhat or very afraid to fly. SNEWS® View: While interesting, one does have to remember that the Gallup poll surveyed general travelers, while the Outside magazine study surveyed individuals who are already quite committed to and interested in adventure travel, and as a result, are far more likely to assume risk and adventure are simply part of a travel package. Still, the results bode well for the market future.
