>> Martin L.B. Walter has retired after more than 23 years with New Balance. Walter, who previously held sales and marketing positions in the company’s domestic U.S. operations, was most recently vice president international – Pacific/Asia, traveling extensively throughout the world to develop New Balance’s business. Following his official retirement, he will serve as a member of New Balance’s Advisory Board

>> Iron Grip Barbell Company recently donated Iron Grip free weight equipment to outfit a newly constructed fitness center in Target House, a housing facility for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital patients and their families. St. Jude, located in Memphis, Tenn., is the nation’s largest center for children undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Iron Grip was invited to participate in the fitness center project through Life Time Fitness, which also donated equipment.

>> Tanita is lowering the price of its entry model, the UltimateScale, to $39.99 from $49.99, effective April 1.

>> The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) has selected TechnoGym as its Associate Member of the Year. TechnoGym will be honored on Feb. 27 at the annual convention and trade show, this year in San Francisco. Founded in 1983 by its current President, Nerio Alessandri, TechnoGym has been an associate member of IHRSA since 1993. The Italy-based company has more than 800 employees worldwide and subsidiaries around the globe.

>> The current Newsweek magazine issue that hit the stands today covers the debate over the USA Food Guide Pyramid and its 1992 claim that broadly says all fats are bad and all carbs are good. Many researchers consider it flawed, and advocate more of an emphasis on so-called “good fats” to leave people feeling more satisfied and more successful at long-term weight loss. The issue is dated Jan. 20, 2003, with the cover title of “The Perfect Diet.”
