Access Fund, the Colorado-based rock climbing advocacy nonprofit, has expanded its team this week with the hiring of Michelle Estrella as the group’s new finance and operations director.
Estrella will provide “strategic leadership of Access Fund’s finances, operations, and human resources,” the organization said in a release yesterday, and will draw upon two decades of finance experience—most recently as CFO of Natural Habitat Adventures, a Colorado tour operator—to help lead Access Fund into the future.
“[Michelle] is a committed climber, and she has a passion for our community and protecting the places we all love so much,” said Access Fund’s executive director, Chris Winter, in the release.

In addition to her corporate experience, which includes financial leadership positions at Comcast and the University of Colorado Boulder, Estrella has served on the boards of the Colorado Chautauqua Association, Open Boulder, and the Boulder Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. She also sits on Boulder’s Open Space Board of Trustees.
“I’m deeply passionate about supporting the connection people have with their public lands through responsible recreation and stewardship,” Estrella said in Access Fund’s announcement of her new role. “The opportunity to bring my multi-decade obsession for climbing and my professional expertise together to support an organization I’ve long admired and supported excites me. It is an honor to join Access Fund’s team and contribute to its effort in creating an inclusive climbing community.”
