Tecnica Group names new CEO

Parent of an iconic portfolio of ski and footwear brands including Tecnica, Nordica, Blizzard, and Lowa has appointed Giovanni Zoppas as CEO and general manager.

After a few months with only an interim chief executive in place, Italy-based Tecnica Group S.p.A.—the parent of ski brands Tecnica, Nordica, and Blizzard, plus footwear maker Lowa—has appointed Giovanni Zoppas as CEO and general manager.

Zoppas takes over in May 2021 from Tecnica chairman Alberto Zanatta, who has been holding the position on an interim basis following the departure of former CEO Antonio Dus in December. Zoppas is exiting his role as CEO of Italian eyewear manufacturer Thélios, a venture between LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Marcolin Group. He previously worked as GM for the Nordica brand.

“I’m very excited about this latest professional challenge,” Zoppas said. “I’ve always been extremely fond of the group and have kept close ties with it after my time at Nordica. I share Alberto Zanatta’s vision of the future objectives and ambitious goals we can achieve, both in terms of business and organizational and managerial solidity.”

Added Zanatta: “The Tecnica Group is pushing forward with materialization with the appointment of a consummate professional who brings with him experience with major international groups and knowledge of our business and local area. These qualities are guaranteed to drive further growth, enabling the group to embrace new business opportunities and maintain its leadership position in the outdoor footwear and ski equipment sector.”

Tecnica has 3,150 employees, and in 2020, the company reported revenue of €382 million (US$450 million), down 9.8 percent compared to the prior year, according to a report in Yahoo Life.

The appointment comes a few months after some changes in the company’s West Lebanon, New Hampshire-based North America operation. Tecnica Group NA in December promoted Sam Cook to vice president and chief commercial officer for its alpine and footwear business units, reporting to the NA group’s president and CEO, Chris Licata.
