1% for the Planet Launches Green Business Mobile App from 3rdWhale

1% for the Planet, the fast-growing global network of businesses that donate 1% of annual sales to environmental causes, has partnered with mobile developer, 3rdWhale on the first mobile application dedicated to promoting green businesses. The new app makes it easy to find and support the 1100 1% member companies and other sustainable businesses.
3rdWhale is the first mobile app developer to join 1% for the Planet, and is donating 25 cents of every $1.99 download to environmental organizations.

The application, which has recently become the leading green app in the iTunes store, is available for the iPhone and Android, and will soon be available for the Blackberry Storm. It allows users to quickly and easily locate nearby healthy-living and environmentally sustainable businesses through the phone’s GPS system.
The GPS-enabled service can determine your exact location and find everything from yoga studios to bicycle shops to organic restaurants. The 3rdWhale Mobile’s database includes over 60,000 categorized listings (including all 1% member companies) in hundreds of cities across North America.
Key features of the application include the Live Green tab which gives sustainable living tips from Creative Citizen Solutions, turn-by-turn directions to green destinations and the opportunity to submit, rate, and review your favorite green businesses.
This new application is the most recent in a long list of multi-media and social web initiatives for1% for the Planet.
