In two short years, the GORE-TEXâ„¢ TransRockies Run has defined a new standard and an entirely new category in North America epic running adventures. Competing as teams of two over the course of six days in the high Colorado Rockies, participants in the TransRockies Run get something much deeper and more lasting than another medal and finisher shirt: they come away with a lifetime of memories and a big checkmark on their ultimate life to-do list.

The third edition of the GORE-TEXâ„¢ TransRockies Run is scheduled to take place August 23-28th, 2009 starting in Buena Vista, Colorado and finishing in Beaver Creek Colorado. Along the way, runners will travel along the Continental Divide, cross high mountain summits, traverse alpine meadows and enjoy a true wilderness experience.

From campfires each night to delicious communal meals and a special sense of camaraderie built during six days of shared effort, the GORE-TEXâ„¢ TransRockies Run is a completely unique and rewarding way to push limits, see the Rockies and even get married. The latter might be an exaggeration, but in 2008 two competitors used the run as a last test before taking their vows at the finish line in Beaver.

Like 2008, the 2009 route will cover over 100 miles of single-track and double track through the historic wild west of the high Colorado Rockies.

From the start line in Buena Vista, near the headwaters of the mighty Arkansas River, the course winds through historic communities like Leadville and Camp Hale before returning to civilization through Vail and onto the pristine mountain resort of Beaver Creek. While final routing is always subject to approval from the Forestry Service, the 2009 route will build upon the spectacle and challenge offered in 2008.

Registration for the 2009 GORE-TEXâ„¢ TransRockies Run opens on October 1st, 2008. Runners from all over the World will be signing up for one of the coveted entries to take on this unique and spectacular challenge. The field will be limited to 150 teams of two who will compete in five different categories: Open Men, Open Women, Open Mixed, Masters Men (80+ combined ages) and, Masters Women. “We’re really excited for the opening of 2009 Registration,” said Event Director Aaron McConnell. “We are really proud of the event that our participants and team have created in our first two years. Our fantastic partners GORE-TEXâ„¢ and Salomon are back on board and we’re looking forward to welcoming even more runners to join us in 2009.”
