9th Annual HERA Climb 4 Life Utah Raises Over $100K

The 9th Annual HERA Climb4Life event in Salt Lake City raised $101,000 to support the detection, treatment, and prevention of ovarian cancer.

Drawing 115 participants, 60 volunteers, and 8 professional climbers and guides to Salt Lake City, this year’s event featured Montrail-sponsored hiking and trail running as well as rock climbing. On Friday evening, the Adventure Film Festival screened selections at the Eccles Auditorium, and on Saturday night, Black Diamond hosted its popular dance party. The Sunday morning gear giveaway saw thousands of dollars worth of products, courtesy of HERA sponsors, awarded to participants and volunteers.

Since its inception HERA has donated nearly $1 million dollars to ovarian cancer research and awareness. It recently awarded its largest grant to date: $100,000 to Dr. Kwong K. Wong of the MD Anderson Cancer Center, who is researching causes and potential treatments for low-grade ovarian cancer. The Climb4Life events—held annually in Utah, Colorado, and Washington D.C.—are HERA’s largest fundraisers.

HERA is also proud to present the Power of One Award, recognizing a sponsor who has gone “above and beyond,” to Stonewear Designs; the Stanley Award, for the top fundraising team, to Team Serenity; and the Angel Award, for outstanding volunteer service, to Shelly Braun.
