ABS Signs Three New North Americans to Athlete Team

ABS Avalanche Safety has signed Ralph Backstrom, Kaylin Richardson and Claudia Avon to support the ABS brand in North America.


Langly, BC (January 13, 2014) ABS Avalanche Airbag Systems is proud to announce three new North American athletes to their roster: Ralph Backstrom, Kaylin Richardson and Claudia Avon.

Kaylin Richardson, (Park City, Utah) former alpine ski racing powerhouse, has recently taken to big mountain skiing after retiring from the World Cup in 2010. Among dozens of alpine skiing championships and two Winter Olympic appearances, Kaylin won the Freeskiing World Tour’s North American Championship in Snowbird in 2012. She has been featured in two Warren Miller films and will be in Sochi covering the 2014 Winter Olympics for The Weather Channel.

Claudia Avon (Whistler, BC) is an up-and-comer that shouldn’t be missed. Claudia grew up racing on skis, though just 7 years ago made the transition to snowboarding and immediately following that, splitboarding. She made it to the finals of the 2010 US Open and has ridden in and won numerous Canadian snowboard competitions. In March of 2013, Claudia was caught in her first avalanche while filming as a stunt double for a movie called “Some Like it Cold,” and ended up deploying her ABS pack. She was unharmed after the incident, though she has taken away from the event a new level of responsibility with her into the backcountry.
