Bozeman, Mont. (June 21, 2021) – MYSTERY RANCH, the industry-leading pack company built on a heritage of comfortable load carriage, function and durability for people who have a mission to accomplish, introduces MOON DUST. Moon Dust is a 120-page hardcover collection of images shot over a length of four years by photographer Robert LeBlanc documenting hotshot firefighters in Montana and California. In partnership with MYSTERY RANCH and Monster Energy Cares, 100% of the book sale proceeds will be donated to the Eric Marsh Foundation, U.S. Hotshot Association, and MYSTERY RANCH’s Backbone Scholarship Program.
Rarely do photographers gain intimate access to hotshot crews while on remote wildfires. In 2020, Robert LeBlanc had unique access to the August Complex Wildfire, which is currently the largest wildfire in California History that burned throughout the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Mendocino National Forest, and Six Rivers National Forest. The wildfire burned for a total of three months, scorching 1,032,648 acres.
“I’ve spent a fair amount of time in dodgy situations by virtue of spending my life behind a camera,” admits Photographer Robert LeBlanc. “But there is nothing that compares to being up close to a wildfire. It’s humbling, terrifying, and entrancing all at the same time.”
The book was brought to life by LeBlanc’s creative eye and Monster Energy. The images in MOON DUST give an intimate vision of what it’s like to battle such an unpredictable natural disaster and how wildland firefighters risk their lives every day. All proceeds of book sales will be donated to the Eric Marsh Foundation, U.S. Hotshots Association, and MYSTERY RANCH Backbone Scholarship.
