adidas Outdoor athlete Sasha DiGiulian, 19, was recognized with an Arco Rock Legends Award in Arco, Italy on August 31, honoring the absolute best in world climbing. The Alexandria, Va., native, who achieved two 9a redpoints and an 8b+ onsight in 2012, received the Salewa Rock Award for her influence on sport climbing over the past year. The Arco Rock Legends Awards are referred to as the “Oscars of Climbing.â€
“This year has truly been an incredible one for myself personally and in developing my climbing career,†said Digiulian. “Through my travels and work with some amazing climbing peers, friends and idols, I’ve tried to focused on goals that inspire me and push my limits. To be recognized on the same platform as my fellow nominees is a great honor, and this Rock Legends Award is something I will cherish forever.â€
Past Arco Rock Legends include Chris Sharma, Josune Bereziartu, Adam Ondra and Patxi Usobiaga. Determined by an international judging panel of more than 20 media outlets from 14 countries, the Rock Legends Awards started in 2005 and are given during the Rock Master Festival in Arco, Italy.
DiGiulian is currently first in the world ranking for Female Outdoor Sport Climbing, Pan-American Champion and U.S. women’s National Champion. She recently started her freshman year at Columbia University in New York.
