WILLISTON, VERMONT — Garmont North America, designers of high-performance ski boots and technical outdoor footwear, has re-signed adventure skier Chris Davenport as brand ambassador.
A two-time World Champion skier, Davenport is widely regarded as one of the premier ski mountaineers in the world today. A former alpine downhill racer with an extensive freeskiing resume, Davenport’s mountaineering resume includes high profile ascents and descents in Antarctica, the Himalaya, Denali National Park, and his home state of Colorado – where he skied all 54 of the state’s 14,000-foot peaks in less then one year.
For 2011, Davenport will be skiing in Garmont’s Radium and Masterlite alpine touring boots in the California Sierra, the Alaska Range, and the Alps in Chamonix, France, among other spectacular mountain destinations.
“Dav’s spirit of adventure, his innovative nature, and his outgoing personality are a superior match for Garmont,†said Gord Bailey, president of Garmont. “We are excited to continue working with one of the preeminent voices in our sport.â€
Known for numerous sport-specific innovations and a performance fit supported by Anatomically Directed Design, Garmont’s exceptional product line includes award-winning alpine, alpine touring and telemark ski boots; and outdoor footwear for mountaineering, backpacking, hiking and trail sports.
For winter 2010, Garmont’s ski mountaineering collection is led by their new high performance alpine touring boot: the Masterlite. With a dynamic lightweight design, the Masterlite weighs in at only 1090g per boot, yet still provides the exceptional control and performance demanded by mountaineers like Davenport.
Developed by Garmont engineers over the last two years, the Masterlite features a unique spiderweb “Webframe†shell which shaves hundreds of grams per boot while still maintaining the critical elements needed for solid structure and high performance.
Garmont’s Radium – also preferred by Davenport – is one of the true icons of backcountry skiing. Blending control and comfort, the Radium features four-buckle performance in a lightweight 1820g multiple injection shell. The Radium’s overlap shell design follows the anatomy of the foot and lower leg for crisp, precise downhill performance. At the same time, the design eliminates a restrictive tongue to allow more independent movement between the cuff and lower shell.
Davenport’s skiing career includes landmark wins at the 1996 and 2001 World Extreme Skiing Championships in Alaska, as well as inclusion in over 30 feature ski films – including an upcoming documentary on skiing the Antarctic Peninsula (www.antarcticskiodyssey.com).
Davenport is also a TV commentator for ESPN, ABC sports, and Outside television. When not traveling the globe Chris resides in Aspen, Colorado with his wife and three boys.
