American Alpine Club and Rock & Ice Magazine to Bring You Accidents Di

December 12, 2012, Golden, CO—Rock & Ice Magazine and the American Alpine Club (AAC) have teamed up to create a new online educational resource for climbers.

Rockandice.com and americanalpineclub.org now provide free access to digital excerpts of the AAC’s most popular book, Accidents in North American Mountaineering. Today climbers can read through 25 reports and analyses, from belay failure to bee stings. Over time, more excerpts will become available exclusively on these two websites.

For decades, both organizations have published accident reports and analyses to educate climbers and keep them safe. Rock & Ice is known for its longtime magazine and website column “Accident Report.” And the AAC has published the 120-page Accidents in North American Mountaineering for more than 60 years, documenting a full spectrum of climbing incidents and errors.

“This partnership will save lives,” said Erik Lambert, Information & Marketing Director for the AAC. “Climbers have a healthy fascination in learning the mistakes of others. We expect that making this information freely available will encourage climbers to learn some new tricks and recognize how human error plays a role in most accidents, climbing more safely as a result.
