The American Alpine Club (AAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan “Nat” Matthews to the position of Operations Director. In this role, Matthews will be a key member of the Club’s executive team.

“Nat brings substantial financial skill and experience to the position along with a collaborative, solution-oriented style to his operations management,” said AAC Executive Director Phil Powers. “While Nat has lived many places, he considers Colorado his home and, like the rest of us, loves these mountains. I look forward to this new phase at the AAC.”

Beyond being an avid outdoorsman, Matthews brings a wealth of financial and operational expertise to the AAC, having led strategic and financial operations in the financial services and renewable energy industries. Matthews also has advised companies such as American Express and Boeing Corporation, working as a management consultant on projects focusing on process improvements, operational risk and financial controls. Matthews earned a BA in Environmental Studies from University of Colorado – Boulder, as well as an MBA in Finance and International Business from Michigan State.

The American Alpine Club worked with Notogroup Executive Search to fill this critical leadership role. The AAC was awarded the pro bono search as part of Notogroup’s annual “Search for Social Good” campaign.

“I cannot speak highly enough about the thorough search and daily support we received from Notogroup in this search,” said Powers. “Their expertise led us to an excellent pool of candidates and a stellar fit for this position.”
