February 21, 2008 (Golden, Colo.) – The American Alpine Club (AAC) and Backbone Media announce a public relations partnership in which Backbone will assist the AAC in its public relations efforts.
The American Alpine Club, founded in 1902, has a history of dedicated members that have been active in the exploration and conservation of mountain and crag environments, both domestically and abroad. “The AAC is a storied organization with a great story to share, and we’re excited to tell it,” says Penn Newhard, partner at Backbone Media. “The AAC is at the heart of the larger outdoor industry; its resources and its activism in policy and conservation benefit the community at large.”
It’s a logical affiliation of two separate companies that share one common goal of supporting the industry. “Backbone Media’s skill set and culture matches our marketing objectives and our mission,†says AAC President Phil Powers. “The staff is authentic and professional, and will assist us in communicating relevant stories to the climbing community and beyond. In our quest to become a more inclusive organization, we’re enjoying the highest membership in our history, and Backbone has an important role to play in sustaining that momentum.â€
About American Alpine Club
The American Alpine Club unites and inspires the climbing community to advance the climbing way of life, with a focus on knowledge, conservation, advocacy and logistical support. The AAC publishes the definitive annual record of the world’s most ambitious climbs, the American Alpine Journal, and operates the Western Hemisphere’s largest mountaineering library. The Alpine Conservation Partnership builds on a long line of landmark conservation and advocacy efforts, dating back 100 years to when John Muir presided over the club. The AAC also runs the Grand Teton Climbers’ Ranch, provides Global Rescue service, stages events, and offers more grants to fund climbing expeditions than any other US organization.
