American Hiking Society invites hiking and trails enthusiasts and leaders to Washington, DC February 20-25 for the 13th annual Hike the Hill: Trails Advocacy Week! During the week-long Hike the Hill, hikers and trails advocates from across the nation will share experiences and advice, learn grassroots lobbying skills and strategies, and advocate for increased funding, promotion and protection of our national system of trails and our natural heritage.

Hike the Hill is attended by leaders and trails enthusiasts from around the country who represent local and regional hiking, conservation and historic preservation organizations. Together, this dynamic network of non-profit organizations, hikers and volunteers will meet with members of Congress, federal land management agencies and the Obama Administration to advocate for trails, open space and related conservation benefits.

Trails are empowerment corridors – they can help transform an individual, a family or a community.” said Gregory Miller, American Hiking Society president. “And because trails cross all walks of life, ages and abilities – trails offer countless benefits to conserve our treasured landscapes and develop a new generation of engaged and educated youth stewards and volunteers.”

Join American Hiking Society and Partnership for the National Trails System at the Lincoln Memorial at 9:00 am EST on Monday, February 22. If you would like additional information, contact Kim Hutson de Belle, at kim@AmericanHiking.org or (800) 972-8608 x 208 or visit www.AmericanHiking.org.
