Fresno, Calif. (May 7, 2015) – American Pistachio Growers (APG) proudly accepted a first place Maggie Award by the Western Publishing Association (WPA) for the “Best Social Media Community, Trade & Consumer (2014)” at a gala event last week. For more than 60 years, the WPA has bestowed awards of excellence to deserving individuals and companies whose work is deemed “The Best in the West” in a wide variety of publishing categories.

“It’s an honor to be recognized amongst so many other great companies in the West,” states Judy Hirigoyen, VP of Global Marketing for American Pistachio Growers. “The APG team has worked hard to elevate our social media engagement and to win a Maggie for this social campaign validates the effort of all our partners.”
The APG team is tasked annually with building demand for pistachios through various marketing and promotional activities carried out around the world. In 2014, APG expanded its integrated social media strategy among multiple social channels with the goal of raising awareness of American Pistachio Growers not only in scale but also in engagement. The social media strategy is run with APG stuff, which saw an over 20 percent increase in engagement last year.
“Community creation that spans our farmers, chefs and world-class athletes has been a fun and collaborative experience,” states Genaro Gonzales, Digital Content Manager for American Pistachio. “We are very pleased with the recognition and for this award.”
The winners were announced during the 64th annual Maggie Awards Banquet on Friday, May 1, 2015 in Los Angeles. The Maggie Awards gala is the most prestigious publishing event in the West. Publishing professionals from 24 states gathered to honor excellence in print and electronic publishing in over 100 editorial, design, promotional and event categories. A trademark of the Maggie ceremony is its high-tech, visually creative multimedia show featuring entries and Maggie winners from the current year.
